Teleskop Service 10×50 LE

Friday, June 26th, 2009

I’ve recently bought second hand Teleskop Service 10×50 LE in hope I’ll be able to see the planets, stars a lot better

but the results so far have been slim ;)

it’s been raining here for days, and it will continue to rain for days

white clouds almost make it impossible to see the stars

tonight, I got lucky, I saw some stars

my neck really hurts ;)

but… I saw no planets and moon wasn’t even in the sky

I guess city lights and white clouds did their thing :]

oh well, anyone had better luck than me?

Underworld 3: Rise Of The Lycans

Sunday, February 15th, 2009

I really like the Underworld series, there’s something about vampires / werewolves that I can’t resist

when I was a kid I used to be really afraid of those

now, I enjoy them

I almost got offended once when a friend called those movies “costume dramas” ;)

now, about the movie

I watched it at Ster cinema, Belgrade, Delta City

some of my friends have told me that the cinema is great, mentioned nachos, great sound…

well nachos were not really fresh (I was at 10pm there) so I got popcorn

the sound was really load but lacked bass

and the screen resolution was not really good, I expected more

but, one can see there more details than when watching “alternative” sources ;)

the whole movie is made at night, in black, blue lights

and this time it really is a drama, a love drama between Lucian, the werewolf able to switch at will between werewolf/human form and Sonia, Victor’s daughter

and werewolves seem to be “the good guys” ;)

I won’t get into details here but you could see the story was carefully thought of

I expected more scenes of vampire / werewolf fights

but in the end it was a well spent 3 euros :)

Police Dash Cam Of Meteor Over Edmonton, Canada

people more than 700 kilometers apart report seeing this meteor hit Canada

Belgrade Beer Fest 2008

Saturday, August 23rd, 2008

or in Serbian, “Beogradski festival piva”

yet another beer fest ;)

and I’m as always regular at beer fests… :)

this year was so like other years

Guinness beer is once again served warm (ewww smiley here)

best beer is Paulaner weisbier (white beer)

beer prices are really high, much higher than at the stores which is kind of strange since this is a beer fest, prices should be lower

music is rather booring but I guess people don’t really listen to the music when they’re high on alcohol or other

Kiril Dzajkovski was here tonight and he was great (look him up at youtube.com)

he really has 3 big hits (drum and bass music) and the other tunes are high energy and very listenable but not something you’ll remember in a few years time

actually his hits are songs I used to listen a couple of years ago

I see he’s been combining etno music from the Balcans with high energy tunes and it sounds cool

the best part was a little black girl that did some rap music and then combined with Kiril in one of his songs…

I couldn’t really understand the lyrics she was singing but she was great :)

Cedric Gervais was booring as was Timo Maas

you’ll find clips at youtube, I couldn’t be bothered to make my own :)

Some Old Pictures

Saturday, June 14th, 2008

It’s been more than a year since I’ve transferred any of the files from my mobile phone to my computer and I finally did it ;)

the reason is that my Toshiba laptop P200-14O has poor Bluetooth support under Linux

to enable it, I had to install the omnibook module and start it with something like modprobe omnibook ectype=12

now for the fun part, lets start with an old photo of myself that my friend made a looong time ago

here it is

and this is my cell phone Sony Ericsson K-700i (guess which one)

this is a game I used to play A LOT
it’s called Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory
I used to panzer the sh*t out of people
ah, the good days :P

here are some cool pictures of the hills of Soko Banja where I spent some good time last year

I was fascinated with this small object in the middle of the forest and I didn’t know at the time what it was
later I found out it was a small orthodox church people built probably on the site where the Turks killed some local people

then I saw a larger group of objects below it and I knew they were a restaurant/kind of hotel that I knew from before

here’s a view of Soko Banja from those hills

and then there is Soko Grad, an ex Turkish fortress, now a tourist site

and a look at the hills around the fortress

and finally something I laughed a lot about :D
this guy made a bull bar for his yugo car ;)

Novi Sad Meeting

Friday, June 6th, 2008

I met with some Linux friends at Novi Sad

there were people from all over Serbia there.

we had a chat about OpenOffice (that was rather boooring for me) and then we went to have some lunch.

after that we relaxed in a cafe

I traveled with two guys in an old Volvo from Belgrade

Here are the pics :)

Mina, The Cat

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

I got today a female cat that I named Mina (note the similarity, Mire & Mina)

in English it’s probably written as Meena (pronounced Mi:na)

I got the cat from a girl that placed a post on a forum website about someone who put a basket with 4 kittens in her back yard

Mina is great, good personality, quiet, she doesn’t make too much sounds, likes to enjoy herself

I gave her some fish, some milk and some cat food

she doesn’t eat much

I placed some old newspapers so she can do her thing there but I guess I should find some sand and put it in a box

I plan to keep her outside (since I have a back yard) and let her in my root from time to time

she likes Tony (my dog)

actually Tony grew up with a cat sleeping on his belly all the time

oh yeah, here’s Mina

C++ Hibernate Daemon

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

I use Fluxbox window manager on Ubuntu Linux where I don’t have all the bells and whistles of GNOME or KDE.

so I thought I’d make myself a daemon program that will automatically put my computer to hibernate when my laptop battery is almost empty

usually I take care that my battery doesn’t get to the red zone but this is for those few cases I forget

I wrote this small programm in C++

why c++

well because I don’t programm in c++ and I found it interesting to do so :)

main.cpp looks like this

so, you see the locations of the info and state file for the laptop battery, the percent at which we go to hibernation (I’ve set it to 12%), and the sleep interval before checking the battery state again (10 seconds)

I use my own hibernate script but you could use something like /usr/sbin/hibernate

you can change all of these

in the main function you can se that:

  • we work only as a root user
  • we daemonize (detach from the terminal and run in background)
  • instantiate a worker class object
  • and do our work :)

and what is our work? check out this picture

worker.cpp

well we get the battery total capacity and current capacity and then we calculate the percent

if the percent is less that what I want (12%) then I want my laptop to go to hibernaton

but I also made a security check (that you can remove if you like)

that makes sure my laptop doesn’t go twice into hibernation in succession

why did I do that?

well because I parse data from some files I have no influence over

and those files can change their format anytime

so this is just a precaution

I have a simple makefile that compiles this code, copies it to /usr/local/bin/medved (medved in my language means a bear and bears hibernate ;) ) and adds an entry to /etc/rc.local so that it starts next time you reboot your box automatically

you can also start it by hand and see how it works before the reboot

and that’s it, now I have a daemon that puts my laptop to hibernation before my battery runs dry

I’ve published the source code under GPL licence version 3

you can get source code here

Wiimote Fun

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

today, a friend sent me to a link to see a guy having fun with wiimote

wow!

actually it is simple

the wii remote has a infrared detector and you use something that emits or reflects infrared light

the efects he’s doing with it are remarkable, take a look for yourself

and here’s the link to Johnny Chung Lee website
