Doing It The Wrong Way

Sunday, June 22nd, 2008

If you’ve been watching Cesar Milan as I have you have probably seen people giving too much affection to their dogs because of one reason or another.

this makes the dog the alpha in the family and usually aggressive to other animals

in Cesar’s show you see all those people that finally see the problem they’ve created by giving too much affection and then they call Cesar to help them control the pet

now, I’m not Cesar Milan but today I met a family that spoiled their dog

it’s a great therapy for the family but poor dog…

I won’t go into details here about the dog but I will say that the owner walks the dog wearing a baseball bat

why?

well because the dog is aggressive (since it thinks it’s an alpha) and attacks other dogs

and instead of handling the dog the right way, the guys wears a baseball bat to kick the other dog in case of the fight ;)

now, he takes his dog on a leash but that’s not the reason to beat the other dog when his dog provokes the other dog

strange… ;)

Some Old Pictures

Saturday, June 14th, 2008

It’s been more than a year since I’ve transferred any of the files from my mobile phone to my computer and I finally did it ;)

the reason is that my Toshiba laptop P200-14O has poor Bluetooth support under Linux

to enable it, I had to install the omnibook module and start it with something like modprobe omnibook ectype=12

now for the fun part, lets start with an old photo of myself that my friend made a looong time ago

here it is

and this is my cell phone Sony Ericsson K-700i (guess which one)

this is a game I used to play A LOT
it’s called Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory
I used to panzer the sh*t out of people
ah, the good days :P

here are some cool pictures of the hills of Soko Banja where I spent some good time last year

I was fascinated with this small object in the middle of the forest and I didn’t know at the time what it was
later I found out it was a small orthodox church people built probably on the site where the Turks killed some local people

then I saw a larger group of objects below it and I knew they were a restaurant/kind of hotel that I knew from before

here’s a view of Soko Banja from those hills

and then there is Soko Grad, an ex Turkish fortress, now a tourist site

and a look at the hills around the fortress

and finally something I laughed a lot about :D
this guy made a bull bar for his yugo car ;)

Bacteria As Proof Of Evolution

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

Some 20 years ago, biologist Richard Lenski, of Michigan State University took a single Escherichia coli bacteria and then kept on feeding it the glucose

one bacteria lead to many and he made 12 different populations that he kept going for 20 years

but then, at about 31 thousand 500 generations of bacteria later, he noticed Escherichia gained the ability to metabolise citrate

the other populations didn’t develop this

now, being careful, Lenski has an archive of every 500 generations stored, so he could replay the process and see if the later generations would develop the same ability (mutation)

the result was, only the original population developed the same mutation when replayed
